Who is responsible for cleaning up on construction sites?
At the end of the project, the customer is obliged to carry out a complete clean-up to restore the site to its original condition. This is a contractual obligation that must be respected, on pain of penalty. It applies to all subcontractors and agents working on site. This also includes those associated with the project, such as suppliers or subcontractors.
Standard NF P03-001 provides a framework for this cleaning obligation: "Each contractor, after working on a given site, must leave the site clean and free of any waste. The contractor who succeeds him has the right to demand this state of cleanliness before undertaking his work (...) Each contractor will be responsible for cleaning his own works, even if the contract documents assign the cleaning of the site to a specific lot".
