Characterization, conditioning and management of radioactive waste
Turnkey services, whatever the scale of the project.
Onet Technologies is a major player in the detection and management of radioactive sources and waste. Our experts in nuclear and environmental measurements offer turnkey services to government bodies and industrial companies faced with problems of radioactivity of natural and/or artificial origin.
Materials management and storage of radioactive waste throughout its lifecycle
Onet Technologies specializes in the management of all types of "natural radioactive" waste, throughout their entire life cycle. Radioactive waste includes various materials containing radioactive elements for which no future use is foreseen.
Today, we have a wealth of experience enabling us to advise our customers on a daily basis and optimize the cost and storage of your waste. Thanks to our know-how, we are able to support our customers in ensuring compliance with the procedures for waste disposal according to the regulatory framework in force.
We work on all types of sites
The diversity of our skills and our human and material resources enable us to offer turnkey services in France and abroad, whatever the scale of the operations to be carried out. There's no such thing as routine in our strategic sector. In the face of repeated requests, we systematically strive to demonstrate the quality of our operations, thanks to our expertise and responsiveness.
We do our utmost to address the long-term management of radioactive waste of natural and/or artificial origin.

PARTNERSHIP With a specialist in the transport of dangerous goods

Intervention in the case of waste packaging and decommissioning of pharmaceutical laboratories
We intervene in laboratories to separate radioactively contaminated areas and materials. We then combine radioactive waste management operations with clean-up operations and radiological inspections to decommission the premises.
Intervention in waste management centers (incinerators, landfill and transfer centers) following the triggering of radioactive portal detectors.
Following detection, we sort and isolate radioactive waste that may be present in household waste collection bins that have been triggered. Following isolation, characterization operations to determine the radioelement and hazardousness of the waste at the origin of the radiological release.
Focus on our radioactive waste management expertise
Remediation and dismantling
Remediation, decontamination and dismantling are essential operations in our business, since they involve removing all or part of the radioactivity from its original support or from the premises that contained it.
Our remediation and dismantling operations generally involve :
- Apartments, laboratories, industries, nuclear facilities.
- Pharmaceutical or research materials, or materials containing or having contained radioactivity.
- Industrial equipment (tippers, machinery, tanks, water treatment processes, etc.).
- Items belonging to private individuals.
- Military equipment (small items, vehicles, aircraft, etc.).
- Nuclear facilities with high-level waste.
Nuclear prospecting and measurement
Nuclear prospecting and measurement are the common threads running through our operations, as these skills are essential to ensure the reliability of a project. Our operators are made aware of these concepts before any intervention in the field, so that they can work on the management of all radioactive waste.
They enable :
- Upstream, to determine the extent and levels of contamination, which will enable us to decide on the methodology to be employed, the equipment to be used and the outlets.
- On completion, to validate the assumptions made in the upstream phase and ship the waste packages to the previously identified outlets.
- Downstream, to map the decommissioning of polluted sites and soils prior to a second inspection and decommissioning by the authorities.
Radiation protection
Radiation protection is the foundation and heart of our expertise, and we attach the utmost importance to it, given the presence of radioactivity where unexposed workers and the public circulate.
These best practices are implemented to protect the population from radioactivity, and our operations are designed to contain high and low-level radioactive materials to limit their impact on man, the environment and future generations.
We also make a point of adapting our equipment and methodologies to the radiation intensity and contamination levels being measured, as well as to the radiotoxicity of the spectrum in which we operate.
Studies
Our business requires us to produce deliverables to inform our customers and the relevant authorities of the actions planned as part of our interventions.
As such, we write :
- Management plans for sites and soils polluted by radioactivity.
- Remediation and dismantling scenarios.
- Asbestos removal plans.
- Files on the management of radioactive waste by outfitters.
- Technical notes justifying radiation protection and characterization resources.
- Comprehensive mapping to show authorities the extent and levels of contamination.
Downgrade mapping
Decommissioning maps refer to the process of reducing or eliminating radioactivity.
We work on decommissioning projects to demonstrate the absence of radioactive sources. For this type of service, the mesh size and sampling rate are adapted to the customer's needs.
Nuclear transport
This service is outsourced to an all-class ADR specialist, i.e. a company authorized to transport dangerous goods. This partnership enables us to obtain the most appropriate classifications. It should be noted that loading and pre-departure loading checks are carried out by trained and authorized Onet Technologies personnel.
Depollution
Over the past 30 years, clean-up operations have produced almost 80,000 big bags from the remediation of sites polluted by radioactivity.
The completion of these major clean-up operations has enabled us to acquire considerable expertise in all levels of radioactivity for the management of all types of waste. We have the skills and personnel required to carry out this type of operation.
For a tailor-made service, our engineering department will work with you to create a service customized to your needs and industrial processes.
Classification of radioactive waste and associated management methods
We package radioactive waste in different types of packages (bags, drums, caissons), depending on its harmfulness and the outlet selected.
Waste requiring management by ANDRA (Agence nationale pour les gestions des déchets radioactifs) is brought into compliance and transported to the facilities either by approved carriers appointed by Onet Technologies or by ANDRA.
Waste requiring treatment in facilities (ISDD, ISDND) accepting RNR (Enhanced Natural Radioactivity), waste containing SRON (Substances Radioactives d'Origine Naturelle) / NORM (Naturally Occuring Radioactive Material) goes to hazardous or non-hazardous waste storage facilities.
Our markets and areas of expertise
- Waste management centers (incinerators, sorting and landfill centers, recycling, etc.).
- Industries using materials extracted from the natural terrain (sand, earth, sediments, etc.).
- Medical Research Laboratories and Hospitals to protect the health of their patients
- Polluted sites and soils
- Radioactive waste producers we can support over the long term
