Customer story: Onet secures the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde

To ensure the ongoing safety and fire safety of Marseille's most visited monument, with over 2 million visitors a year. The diocese of Marseille called on Onet to deploy a hybrid security system combining human and electronic resources.

Important safety and security issues at La Bonne Mère :

With its 360° view over the entire city, the Basilica(ERP type V) can accommodate over 20,000 people on busy days. TheOnet Security service helps raise the level of protection for this sensitive site, which is exposed to a variety of risks.

Our human safety missions:

  • Monitor the entire site
  • Controlling and facilitating access to the site
  • Prevent fires and maintain SSI equipment
  • Performing first aid procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with facility regulations
  • Lock access to sites during closing hours
  • Working effectively with public authorities

Our electronic security missions :

  • Audit the video surveillance system

Increase the level of surveillance by installing additional cameras

Tailor-made human resources to meet the site's traffic peaks

The number of Onet Security agents mobilized at the Basilica varies considerably according to the site's activity peaks. It can range from 4 to 37 agents, as was the case for the Pope's recent visit.

The service is planned in close collaboration with the diocese. Onet Security management estimates the number of visitors per day, based on the forecast schedule for cruise calls to Marseille and religious holidays (Easter, Christmas, Pentecost, etc.). In the event of an increase in the number of visitors, we can call on a pool of Onet agents trained in the specific features of the site, to enhance operational efficiency.

Fire prevention, a major challenge

Throughout the year, we have a team of SSIAP 1 and 2 agents dedicated to fire prevention. They patrol the monument, ensuring that all SSI systems are operational (fire extinguisher, smoke extraction, smoke sensor, etc.), and educate visitors about fire safety.

In the event of an incident, they perform first aid procedures and alert the emergency services (SAMU, fire department). They facilitate their intervention by smoothing access to the site and evacuating visitors if necessary.

Agents in high demand

On a day-to-day basis, the staff's day is punctuated by masses celebrated in the basilica and crypt. They ensure that visitors respect the rules of the establishment (decent dress, respect for silence in prayer areas, etc.).

Flow and parking management are essential to avoid overflow that could impact visitor safety. Our agents ensure that visitor gauges are respected, and restrict access to the site when the quota is exceeded.

Shortly before the Basilica closes, they escort visitors to the parking lot, before checking that no one is still on site and sealing off the various entrances. They can rely on video-surveillance cameras to give them an overview of the site's activity.

Our staff's know-how is of paramount importance: their attitude must be adapted to the specificities of a place of worship, and balanced between the principles of safety and welcoming visitors, tourists and pilgrims.

Enhanced electronic security

Our electronic security experts carried out an in-depth study of the existing video surveillance system, visiting the site with the human security teams, identifying sensitive points and analyzing the site's configuration.

The integrated cameras have been specifically selected to meet the security needs of each surveillance zone. The positioning and functionality of each video surveillance camera are designed to meet a specific objective: detection, identification, recognition, observation. The cameras were installed by our technicians. The system was designed to be maintained after the visit, in order to increase the detection capabilities of our agents.

A relationship of trust with the Diocese

"Thanks to Onet's human and electronic security services, visitors to the Basilique Notre Dame de La Garde can enjoy a completely serene experience. Onet's agents provide effective security, using a discreet approach to avoid compromising the peace and quiet of this emblematic site.

There is a real co-construction of the service between the diocese of Marseille and Onet Security. The management team is always ready to make suggestions for tailor-made security arrangements, depending on the site's activity". Father Spinosa, rector of Notre Dame de la Garde.
