Onet provides fire safety and security for the largest multidisciplinary French-speaking university (AMU)
110 Onet agents on permanent contracts are mobilized to ensure the safety and security of 38 Aix-Marseille University establishments. This large-scale service required the creation of a dedicated agency in record time, following the failure of a service provider. Depending on the volume of additional services required, the number of Onet agents involved can reach 130.
Major security challenges at Aix-Marseille University
Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) is home to some 80,000 students and 8,000 staff at its 54 sites in 4 départements and 9 towns. Secure sites include mainly public buildings(ERP) and 3 high-rise buildings(IGH).
There are many safety risks in buildings open to the public (ERP): intrusion, deterioration, aggression, accident, fire... Fire safety is an essential component in anticipating the main risks specific to high-rise buildings (IGH): complex evacuation, chimney effect in the event of fire, difficult access for firefighters...
Onet Security was asked to provide fire safety and security services for more than 38 Aix-Marseille University establishments, including the Saint Charles and Luminy faculties of science, the Timone faculty of medical and paramedical sciences...
While the majority of our establishments are located in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, with their large, busy campuses, we also offer our services to other, more remote establishments, such as the university center in Gap.
Multi-site security system deployed in record time
The deployment and management of a multi-site service involving up to 130 agents required the creation of an agency and the appointment of dedicated profiles (two safety coordinators, one security coordinator, one planner). Implementation of the service was completed in just 2 months.
Agent profiles vary according to the risks inherent in each establishment: security agent, security dog handler, SSIAP 1 agent, security team leader, SSIAP 2 team leader, SSIAP 3 department manager. The management team has given priority to versatility, with competent teams able to carry out safety and fire safety missions in parallel.
Safety, a priority issue in schools
Onet provides security for 18 sites on a recurring basis, with up to 16 permanent staff for a major site. Occasionally, Onet also provides additional services at a further 20 sites.
The size of the system is constantly evolving, particularly during exam periods or when there are large numbers of students. Management has built up a pool of Onet Security agents to respond rapidly to AMU's requests for additional services.
Onet Security agents carry out safety missions:
- Reception and access control: filtering entrances and exits, managing equipment and keys, checking bags for illegal items, informing and guiding visitors around the site...
- General surveillance: patrols, alarm management, clarification in the event of an alarm, closure of site accesses, compliance with site safety instructions, etc.
Increased fire prevention and safety for ERP and IGH buildings
40 SSIAP 1 and 2 agents guarantee fire prevention and safety at the Faculties of Saint Charles, Luminy, La Timone and Schuman (Aix en Provence). These regulated establishments require fire safety preventive measures, particularly for high-rise buildings and establishments open to the public.
The fire safety and personal assistance services at the Saint Charles and Luminy faculties are managed by 2 Onet Security fire safety supervisors. They hold the SSIAP 3 diploma, and are responsible for ensuring that current regulations are applied, and for the overall organization of the fire safety system.
The fire safety and personal assistance service supervised by Onet Security on AMU sites provides the following services in particular:
- Fire prevention (SSIAP 1)
- Maintain fire safety systems and manage the fire safety control center (SSIAP 1)
- Raising awareness among employees and visitors (SSIAP 1)
- Alert and evacuate in the event of an incident (SSIAP 1)
- Managing and training teams (SSIAP 2)
- Revise safety regulations (SSIAP 2)
- Comply with regulatory requirements for rescue equipment and SSI (SSIAP 3)
- Identifying fire/accident risk situations (SSIAP 3)
- Collaborate with the safety commission and manage department resources (SSIAP 3)
- Advise facility managers on the design of their IS system (SSIAP 3)
- Ensure compliance with fire safety maintenance rules (SSIAP 3)
Provision of PTI devices and a service monitoring tool
Onet Security has revised the lone worker protection systems for more than 20 sites in order to guarantee the safety of agents during rounds:
- Deployment of a computerized handbook to optimize reporting: dashboard with full visibility of daily operations, activity reports with photo and video, management of security rounds with agent geolocation, management of instructions and working hours...
- Rugged smartphone equipment for Onet Security agents with integrated mobile handrail and geolocation system.
- Radio to facilitate communication between Onet Security agents on the same site.
- Installation of kennels for Onet Security dog handlers.
A relationship of trust between AMU and Onet Security
Transparent management of the service has enabled us to build up a relationship of trust between customer contacts at each site. Thanks to our computerized hand-holding tool, we can provide detailed reports on security activity at each site. We can respond quickly to Aix Marseille Université's specific needs, and reinforce the system if necessary.
To date, Aix Marseille Université is fully satisfied with its choice of ONET to ensure the security of some of its sites and events.
