Onet supports the commercial development of a French airline

On the strength of its commercial success, our customer has opened new state-of-the-art baggage sorters at the Roissy and Orly terminals to handle the increase in passenger traffic. Onet was entrusted with project and operations management.
A look back at the success of the TDS3 (Roissy) and One Roof (Orly) sorters.

TDS3: An ambitious and successful project

To support the development of its long-haul commercial activity, our customer, in collaboration with Paris Aéroports, opened a new baggage sorter on May 13, 2018 at Roissy Airport's Terminal E: the TDS3. Onet Airport Services was entrusted with test management and operational management of the sorter.

During 2019, Onet successfully supported the ramp-up of this new infrastructure.

This success has contributed to an overall improvement in performance at the Roissy-CDG hub of France's leading airline.

A major challenge for the airline

To cope with increased activity, the solution absolutely had to be deployed before summer 2018, to the east of terminal E, where long-haul flights depart. Already saturated, the terminal had not had the capacity to receive more baggage, particularly during the summer period. The new baggage sorter provides a significant sorting capacity. It also contributes to improving working conditions for operational staff, with a very low noise level in particular.

How did the Onet Airport Services teams rise to the challenge?

Major recruitment for TDS3 operations

A management team, including an operations manager and a dedicated project manager, has been specially set up to meet the expectations of this large-scale project.

The new organization relies on experienced managers and agents recruited after passing various selection tests. Their mission is to manage baggage departing from CDG, as well as the particularities of the system: last-minute baggage, crew baggage, incorrect baggage, etc.

The deployment of TDS3 was a real company project, carried out over 6 months, which called on the expertise of many different professions and departments: QSSE, HR, operations, planning, methods...

Working closely with the manufacturer to ensure efficient ramp-up

Onet took part in the various design stages in collaboration with Beumer, the sorter manufacturer. This cooperation has enabled Onet to gain a better understanding of the new equipment, notably by testing the sorter's capacities, so as to be up and running quickly.

A result that exceeded expectations

The sorter's performance, with almost 180,000 bags/month, is better than expected.

ONE ROOF ORLY 3: Operating the new sorter

Building on the success of the TDS3 at Charles de Gaulle airport, our customer has chosen Onet to operate the new baggage sorters at Orly 3.

This sorter is located in the junction that now links the former West and South terminals.

It handles baggage departing from Paris and connecting for its own passengers, those of its subsidiaries and partner airlines. It is therefore an eagerly-awaited and powerful tool for offering passengers rapid connection opportunities between two flights.

The new terminal, inaugurated by the French Prime Minister, will enable France's leading airline to refocus its operations at the heart of Orly, with modernized facilities offering passengers an exceptional experience.

All Onet Airport Services staff are very proud to have contributed to this new success, with a very successful opening of the new sorter.
