Safety and security at the ITER site
Onet Security supports the safety and security of the ITER site, one of the world's largest scientific projects today. Read the testimonial from the head of the ITER Organization's Safety and Security Division, who explains the particularities of the site hosting this project and the reasons for their renewed confidence in Onet Security.
When safety and security adapt to a site's specific features
In 2019 and 2020, the ITER Organization has once again entrusted Onet Security with the safety and security of the 180-hectare site and the 4,000 or so people who work there.
Onet Security manages site security through reception and screening (around 5,000 entrances and exits per day via 5 entrances), guarding, intervention and patrols.
Through an "Emergency Response Team", the Onet Security teams are also on hand 24/7 for safety and emergency management, to provide prompt assistance while the SDIS is waiting.
Vehicles adapted to the particularities of the site, dog patrols, security guards fluent in English (the official language on site), etc.
Onet Security on this particular site for over 6 years now.
The advantage of renewing Onet's contract is that the relationship is one of continuity. This has enabled us to establish a relationship of trust, and perhaps find new areas to work on in the future.
Christophe RAMU Head of Security/Safety Division - ITER ORGANIZATION
What is the ITER project?
ITER (Latin for "The Way") is one of the world's most ambitious scientific projects.
In Saint-Paul-les-Durance, Bouches-du-Rhône, 7 partners representing 35 countries (Europe, USA, Russia, China, India, Japan and South Korea) are involved in the construction of the largest tokamak ever designed. This experimental machine aims to reproduce on Earth the energy found in the sun and stars. This promising project for the whole of humanity will create the energy of the future.
Currently under construction, this gigantic international site employs 850 people, 850 subcontractors and 2,000 workers. Eventually, they will be replaced by over a thousand scientists from all over the world.
In this exceptional context, the Iter Organization's Safety and Security Department must implement an "evolutionary" policy. The teams must be able to adapt to any threats the site may face. "We have to keep pace with the evolution of the project, but also with the changing profiles and numbers of staff involved," confides Christophe Ramu, Head of the Safety and Security Division at Iter Organization.
