The different types of logistics flows
Logistics flow management is characterized by all the physical and information flows that make it up.
Onet Logistique can help you choose, manage and control the various logistics flows that may be in place in your company.
Pull flows are demand-driven. Their aim is to reduce or even eliminate inventory-related costs and adapt production to actual consumption.
This is flow optimization, based on the anticipation of future orders, in order to help manage production and therefore size the supply chain.
Just-in-time production can be implemented in 2 ways: pull or push. In both cases, a high level of coordination is required between purchasing, production, marketing and sales departments, and of course logistics.
This method consists of supplying the various components according to their order of use in the supply chain. This process is mainly used in automotive and aerospace production lines.
To optimize your supply chain, you need to optimize the performance of all the flows within your organization.
The aim of an optimized logistics organization is to use the right resources at the right time, whether in the procurement, production or distribution phases.
Steering and managing logistics flows: a major challenge for reducing waste
- 1
Deadlines :
Produce on time, i.e. neither too early to avoid stock, nor too late to avoid lengthening production and waiting times. - 2
Unnecessary inventory:
Stocking parts that are not needed or available at the wrong time. They can be caused by poor organization or overproduction. - 3
Manufacturing defects :
When a product doesn't conform to specifications, when there are input errors, breakages or accidents due to poor organization. The result is lost time, money and a high risk of customer dissatisfaction. - 4
Unnecessary transport or movement:
This involves moving materials, products, documents or information that are of no value to the customer. They can be time-consuming, resource-intensive and, above all, cause damage. - 5
Handling and transport activities :
Poorly organized transport and handling can generate significant additional costs. - 6
Inappropriate treatments:
This consists in carrying out a step that brings no value to the product/service. They are often characterized by a lack of instructions or a process that is too complex to implement. - 7
Under-utilization of skills
This waste was added to the previous 6 at the instigation of Shigeo Shingo, who said that "the most dangerous waste is the one you can't see". It echoes the lack of training, overly rigid, authoritarian management and a lack of trust between managers and their teams. It undermines creativity and team spirit, and has the direct consequence of under-utilizing employees' skills.
