Onet provides logistics services for the Renaissance project on Île de Bendor

Onet Logistique teams are in charge of logistics for the "Renaissance de l'île de Bendor" rehabilitation project in the Var region of France. Xavier Dalis, South-East Multisite Director at Onet Logistique, looks back at this unique logistical challenge in an atypical setting.

Bendor Island, a major project

Ideally located between Toulon and Marseille near Bandol (Var), the island of Bendor is preparing to write a new chapter in its history. Its owner, Société Paul Ricard, has embarked on a major project to make the island, which is closed to the public until 2026, "one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean", according to Société Paul Ricard.

Work has begun on a massive refurbishment project, rooted in the Ricard family's values, in the light of new environmental requirements and the need for climate resilience: refurbishment of two hotels, creation of restaurants, a SPA in particular and a family island-hotel estate, as well as the renaturation of the entire island and its pathways.

South-East Multisite Manager Onet Logistique

What exactly do you do?

"The logistics services we provide include managing the flow of trucks, deliveries and visitors to the island during the construction period. We also ensure the safe arrival of personnel arriving on site for the first time.

How many Onet agents are on the island to manage site logistics?

"Logistics management of the site is currently handled by 8 agents spread over three sites.

What are the special features of the Bendor site?

"The main particularity of the Bendor site is that it's located on an island. So the challenge is twofold! We have to manage the site's logistics and adapt to an atypical site with maritime, meteorological and boat schedule constraints. "

How does Onet Logistique apply its expertise?

"Onet Logistique's expertise enabled us to set up a team at three different sites to manage the project as effectively as possible. With the help of our customer Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est, we set up a buffer base in the commune of Sanary to carry out various checks (vehicle conformity, identity of drivers, goods, etc.).

This location also enables us to manage travel times so as to arrive at the port of Bandol in the best time slot for boarding the boat, not too early so as not to interfere with traffic in the town, and not too late so as not to miss the boat.

On arrival at the port of Bandol, we have a second team positioned on the pier to receive trucks and load them onto the boats for the crossing, manage visitor badges and welcome workers on the island.

The third team, located on the island, takes delivery of the boats, directs the trucks to the area they need to go to, and manages the arrival of the various passengers (employees, workers, visitors, etc.). It also cleans the trucks for their return to the mainland, as the island is essentially made up of land and the quays and streets of Bandol must be kept clean.

There are also two forklift operators on site, who are responsible for unloading deliveries, transferring goods to the island and emptying waste using a manitou.

A multi-expertise service for the Onet Group

In addition to its logistics services, the Onet Group is also providing electronic security for the Île de Bendor during the construction phase. The Onet Security engineering department designed and integrated a customized electronic security system for this isolated site. Technicians at Onet Security installed 29 electronic security devices (detectors and sirens) around Bendor Island.

The Group also worked with Paul Ricard through its subsidiary Sinteo, which specializes in sustainable real estate consulting and engineering, to meet a number of challenges. Firstly, the comfort of future users, in terms of interior and exterior acoustics, and summer comfort (heat, mistral). On the other hand, Sinteo was also involved in meeting the environmental challenges of building energy performance, low-carbon renovation (materials & reuse) and renaturation of the island.
