Interview with David Maroulier, manager of the 3rd France Relance winning project.

My name is David MAROULIER, and I'm a graduate engineer in Mechanical Engineering from the UTC.

I began my professional career at DASSAULT AVIATION, where I developed and implemented a method for qualifying production resources for the industrialization of the RAFFALE. I then contributed my skills to several design offices to meet the production needs of major automotive parts manufacturers.
I then continued my career with CNIM as a consultant, working on the dismantling of the CHOOZ A reactor and contributing to the design of the LASER Megajoule target carrier.
I have now been working for 12 years as a Project Manager in the Reactor Engineering and Services Division of ONET Technologies, meeting the maintenance needs of the French nuclear fleet.

What project did you apply to France Relance for?

The project we presented to France Relance is entitled " Development and qualification of a LASER treatment bench and mobile unit for decontamination in nuclear operations "
The main objective of this project is to industrialize a remotely-controlled robotized pulsed laser decontamination process for decontaminating primary piping components in operating nuclear power plants, without altering the mechanical properties of the base metal. This process can be used underwater, and its application can be extended to the decontamination of worn components, non-dedicated tooling or even dismantling.

How is this project a project for the future of the nuclear industry?

This solution boosts EDF's productivity by massively reducing waste production, while improving operator safety through a reliable, quick-to-implement remote-controlled design that limits operator exposure to ionizing radiation.
