Onet Technologies to reconquer the cellars of the Bâtiment des Auxiliaires Nucléaires at Flamanville

In 2019, the ASN carried out audits on the Flamanville power plant and placed it under "reinforced surveillance" following various issues. An action plan was immediately put in place by the plant's management, and Onet Technologies was given the opportunity to play a part. EDF's doctrine of "maintaining facilities in exemplary condition" was the guiding principle behind this project for our teams.

Winning back the BAN

The BAN (Bâtiment des auxiliaires nucléaires) at Flamanville has cellars on level -4, on units 1 and 2. These cellars were originally designed as final containment areas. Over the years, the cellars have become cluttered with industrial equipment, tools, drums, etc.

The ASN and site management ordered the evacuation and "reconquest" of the cellars, carried out by Onet Technologies.

Strong mobilization of Onet Technologies teams

This project required the mobilization of a team of a dozen people (logisticians, handlers, waste and radiation protection technicians, etc.) and almost 18,000 hours of activity. All those involved in PGAC were contributors.

The Onet Technologies teams had to analyze the stored material, cut and pack the waste, and drain and treat the effluent in order to evacuate the cellars. Some materials were also highly dosed, so they were treated and then placed in hulls.

Over 80 120-liter drums were evacuated. All this waste was sent to nuclear waste treatment or storage facilities.

A success story

The cellars were recently visited by plant managers and safety authorities. Onet Technologies was congratulated by EDF and the ASN for the work carried out and the consequent efforts involved.

Thanks to this project, the Flamanville cellars have been recovered, and keeping them in top condition is now the watchword for maintaining these high standards.
