Technology at man's service for enhanced safety
In the feature "Drones, Robots, AI... What place for man?", produced by Protection Sécurité Magazine (n°271, issue May/June 2022), Onet Security's Director of Operations, Claude Defarges, presents the Group's vision of new technologies in security.
Robots, drones and other new technologies are attracting the interest of many security professionals.
Are you one of them?
As far as interest is concerned, it's obvious.
At Onet, we've been working for several years to develop our own solutions, thanks to a unit dedicated to the research and development of new technologies.
We are working on drone surveillance with autonomous drones, wired drones and ground robots. The first result of our work was our Exosphère tethered balloon, version 2 of which will soon be launched.
We are currently testing an autonomous drone to solve the problem of this tool's limited autonomy.
We are currently developing and adapting our own ground robot, with the help of partners, for both indoor and outdoor surveillance missions.
All these new tools are more efficient because they can incorporate more powerful cameras, artificial intelligence, various sensors...
Some people worry that robots, AI... will one day replace humans.
Are we heading for the "end" of human security?
There will always be a need for security agents, operators and technicians.
Robots aren't going to replace people. But they will make our professions more attractive.
This is very important at a time when our professions are not very attractive, and when the entire security industry is preparing to play its part in major events such as the Rugby World Cup in 2023 and the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games the following year.
What's more, our customers aren't just looking for low-cost services, they want efficiency. Robotics, AI and other new technologies integrated into our businesses will enable us to enrich human security and become even more efficient.
Finally, robotics will also enable the profession to feminize our jobs by avoiding exposing female agents to risks, and by enabling them, thanks to robots, to avoid being exposed to certain physical constraints.
