A role essential to the continuity of transport operations in the Nantes region, and highlighted by Ouest France, France's leading daily newspaper. Here's a look at what Christophe, Julien, Steven and Béatrice have to say.

Deep cleaning and disinfection every evening

In Nantes, teams are mobilized to disinfect streetcars every night from 8pm to 2am.

A team of 3 agents ensure the thorough cleaning and disinfection of this mode of transport, which is so popular with the people of Nantes.

First step: cleaning

Christophe, Julien, cleaners, and Steven, Onet team leader, start with a standard cleaning service, including waste removal.

" We're up to 110 liters of waste when we're cleaning 33 to 35 streetcars as normal," says Steven.

Step 2: Disinfection

Agents are specially equipped (suit, mask, goggles). The driver's cabs and all contact points are then disinfected according to the protocol established by Onet. "I spray disinfectant all over the streetcar, especially on all the bars and contact points that customers touch every day", says Christophe.

Once this stage has been completed, the floor is cleaned and rinsed to remove all traces of disinfectants. " This is the most physical part of the job ," explains Béatrice Bonno, Onet Area Manager.

Around fifteen streetcars a night

The care required for Covid-19 disinfection naturally increases the time spent on cleaning. Teams thoroughly clean around fifteen streetcars every evening, compared with around thirty under normal circumstances.

In addition to daily cleaning and disinfection, the streetcars are cleaned all year round, for example, the windows are cleaned once a week. In the stations, contact points are cleaned daily, with high-pressure cleaning once a week or once a fortnight.

The crews also play an essential role in the image conveyed by the mode of transport.

" The next morning, the streetcar smells clean and fresh, even in the driver's cab. It smells good, which is reassuring for drivers and passengers alike," insists Béatrice Bonno.
