Onet Logistique faces the challenge of peak period: recruitment and training at the heart of the system

For several years now, and especially since the COVID-19 crisis, parcel volumes have been increasing exponentially. This expansion is particularly concentrated at the end of the year, when parcel shipments are at their peak.

To cope with this period of intense activity, Onet Logistique can sometimes recruit and train more than 50 people on site to provide logistics services and meet our customers' needs, a real feat in a particularly tight employment market.

How does Onet Logistique meet the challenge of peak activity? Gaëlle Jourdan-Arzal, Onet Logistique Recruitment Manager, and Jessica Giraudineau, Onet Logistique Operations Director, explain.

Black Friday, festive season and January sales:
a pivotal period for the supply chain

This period is of crucial importance for the e-commerce and supply chain sector, encompassing the months of November, December and January, and can account for up to 50% or more of e-commerce companies' annual sales.

What is Peak Period?

This is a period of several weeks during which logistics players are mobilized on an exceptional basis to cope with a temporary and significant increase in parcel volumes, linked to Black Friday, the festive season and the January sales.

Booming online sales amplify peak season

Online sales have seen impressive growth in France, rising from 57 billion euros in 2014 to almost 130 billion euros in 2021, according to FEVAD. This represents an increase of over 128% in the space of seven years.

Business peaks: a logistical and human challenge

Since October 2008, no fewer than 650 Onet Logistique employees have been working every day in the logistics warehouses of the retail sector, to ensure the mission entrusted to them: on-time delivery of parcels.

The approach of the peak period is a major challenge, as we are expected to be able to manage this intense period.

It's a real challenge that requires exceptional mobilization on the part of our teams. The peak period calls for an adapted organization, both in operational and human terms.

Every week, forecasts are received and meetings are organized to anticipate peaks in activity.

Our strength, at Onet Logistique, is also our responsiveness during these times in recruiting and training the necessary staff."

explains Jessica GIRAUDINEAU, Director of Operations, Distribution Sector, Onet Logistique.

Onet Logistique's recruitment expertise

In record time, our HR teams can deploy up to 50 people on site to meet our customers' needs. A real feat in a particularly tight employment market.

Recruiting and training at the heart of our expertise

Our recruitment teams work on the attractiveness of our positions on a daily basis, so that we are ready to recruit during the peak period (relations with local employment agencies, distribution of vacancies on selected sites, ongoing contact with candidates, etc.).

After studying the overall need, volume and skills required, the recruitment phase begins.

Our strength lies in filling our warehouseman and team leader positions in record time. Our dedicated recruitment team positions itself as a true business partner. We support our operational managers by deploying ultra-responsive recruitment methods.

Our challenge is to support our growth in an agile way, with a recruitment process that ensures the reliability of our recruitments.

Our recruitment processes adapt to changes in the job market and in the behavior of our candidates, and specifically in the logistics sector.

Volume recruitment requires innovative tools that are increasingly digitalized. It's true, they are an invaluable aid to being reactive and working with volumes. Secondly, however, we pay particular attention to maintaining human relations at the heart of the candidate experience.

explains Gaëlle Jourdan-Arzal, Onet Logistique Recruitment Manager.
