CEA DAM Valduc entrusts Onet Technologies with the management of its alpha incinerator

Onet Technologies has recently been awarded a contract to assist with the operation of the alpha incinerator and waste storage facilities at CEA DAM (Direction des Applications Militaires) in Valduc. Onet Technologies' presence at the Valduc CEA is a great recognition for our teams, as it's the first time in twenty years that we've been awarded this contract! Five experts are involved in this project, which is scheduled to run for a firm three-year period.

Assignments entrusted to Onet Technologies at CEA Valduc

CEA Valduc has entrusted Onet Technologies with the management of its alpha incinerator, which incinerates waste in order to reduce its volume. This volume reduction optimizes the final storage of waste at Andra (the French national radioactive waste management agency), and minimizes costs. Onet Technologies is responsible for cleaning the incinerator, preparing the waste packages and maintaining the equipment (gloves, filters, etc.). After incineration, the waste residues are extracted and packaged in drums. These drums are then shipped to CEA, which is responsible for their documentation and transfer to Andra.

Incinerations are planned in the form of campaigns: around 4 to 5 incineration campaigns are scheduled per year, lasting a few weeks. These campaigns optimize waste treatment efficiency, as incinerators consume a lot of energy.

In addition to operating the incinerator, the contract awarded to Onet Technologies includes work in glove boxes. Glove boxes are closed enclosures fitted with integrated gloves, enabling operators to safely handle radioactive waste confined inside. They play an essential role in preventing radiological contamination, and are equipped with ventilation systems and filters to guarantee safe handling. In addition to carrying out work and maintenance on these glove boxes, Onet Technologies carries out regulatory checks to ensure that the gloves are in good condition, and replaces them in the event of deterioration.

Finally, the building forstoring waste awaiting incineration is also managed by Onet Technologies teams.

A service that mobilizes five Onet Technologies employees

The Onet Technologies team involved in the Valduc CEA project is distributed as follows:

  • Two operators in charge of waste storage, glove box work and maintenance, and incinerator cleaning;
  • A radiation protection technician who carries out checks and inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and site safety;
  • The contract manager, who ensures communication with the customer and manages any unforeseen events;
  • Finally, an account manager who is responsible for a number of contracts, managing financial, contractual and commercial aspects, as well as customer relations.

Thank you to CEA Valduc for choosing Onet Technologies to carry out this project, demonstrating their confidence in our expertise and know-how!
