Good site safety practices
Construction sites present a variety of risks: acts of vandalism, theft of materials, risks of injury and falls for workers, etc. It is therefore necessary to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of property and people on site. Find out more about the protective devices needed to effectively secure a construction site.
Who is responsible for site safety?
The project owner
The owner of a construction site is responsible for ensuring the safety of the site on which he is working. Until the site is handed over, he or she is obliged to put in place appropriate and effective measures to protect the various participants and passers-by.
The employer
The French Labor Code also requires all employers to guarantee the health and safety of their employees. Each construction company present on the site is therefore individually responsible for the safety of its own employees.
For an employer in the construction sector, this obligation takes different forms:
sufficient supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE: helmets, safety shoes, gloves, masks, acoustic protection, work clothes);
tools and equipment adapted to the task in hand and in perfect working order;
the installation of alarm systems for isolated workers (DATI): these automatically detect a dangerous situation and immediately sound the alarm.

What measures should be taken to secure a building site against intruders?
Closing the site
Trespassers can be the source of theft, damage or human accidents.A well-secured perimeter prevents curious onlookers from entering the site and injuring themselves. Such an accident could render the client liable.
So the first thing to do is to fence off your site effectively. This means installing sufficiently sturdy and high barriers to prevent any unwanted entry. It is also advisable to limit the number of different accesses to the site. The more access possibilities there are, the greater the number of intrusions or attempted intrusions.
Install site access control
An access control system at the site entrance can be an effective complement to a site fence. It is a greater deterrent than a "simple" gate, and restricts entry to authorized professionals only. It is also useful for controlling the number of people simultaneously present on the site, controlling co-activity and reducing the risk of accidents as much as possible.
There are several solutions for controlling site entrances/exits: turnstiles, electronic controls with name badges, automatic barriers with guard posts, etc. In addition to the security aspect, the idea is also to keep a record of passages through a written register or management software associated with access control.
Installing a video surveillance system
Video surveillance systems or surveillance cameras can be visible and deter a large proportion of theft or intrusion attempts. If not, they enable you to react quickly and/or identify the people responsible for the disturbance. In some cases, malicious acts may be perpetrated from within the site.
Depending on your needs and the situations your worksite may face, there are night vision cameras or discreet systems that can be hidden from view.
A private security company can provide electronic surveillance of your site (remotely or on-site), while offering an installation tailored to your site configuration and security requirements.
Our security guards provide a comprehensive service, from diagnosing your site to installing high-performance video surveillance systems and ongoing surveillance. In the event of a threat, they are trained to take appropriate action on site or alert the authorities.
Opt for a guarding solution
Depending on your needs, site guarding is an extremely effective solution for securing a building site. It involves a physical presence (permanent or otherwise) on your site, which is quickly identified by potential intruders.
A security guard can make nightly rounds and/or provide video surveillance of the site, so as to intervene as quickly as possible. During the day, he or she can also take charge of access control to the guard post (checking access to the site).
Other deterrent equipment to protect your worksite
In addition to the above solutions, it is advisable to increase the number of deterrents visible from public spaces. There are, for example, motion detector lighting systems, or simply floodlights to make sites that are too far from public lighting less vulnerable. A sign indicating that your site benefits from video surveillance or that a guard is present can also discourage malicious acts.
