Five years without an accident at the Saint-Laurent A construction site for the Onet Technologies teams
Onet Technologies is celebrating five years without an accident at the Saint-Laurent A decommissioning site! This is a symbolic milestone, but above all a source of immense collective pride. Behind this achievement are dedicated teams, hands-on management, and constant vigilance on the ground. This commitment was praised by Alain Gauvin, CEO of Onet Technologies, during his visit on March 11.
A more field-oriented structure, closer to operations, is one of the keys to the success of the five-year accident-free record at Saint-Laurent A
One of the concrete measures implemented to improve safety at the Saint-Laurent A construction site was increasing managerial presence on-site. Management is now more visible, with clearer roles and direct involvement in operations, including:
- two safety inspections by management each week,
- managers on site every day,
- faster decision-making in response to unexpected situations.
This proximity made it possible to better monitor the conditions on the ground and quickly adjust the measures taken as needed.
At the same time, simple rituals help structure the daily routines of Onet Technologies’ on-site teams, providing them with a clear framework: a pre-shift briefing, warm-up exercises, a post-shift debriefing, and a review of any discrepancies or areas requiring attention.
A safety culture driven by our teams and shared by our subcontractors—another factor behind the five years without an accident at Saint-Laurent A
This result is also due to the work done to foster a safety culture. Teams are regularly engaged through practical interactions: informal discussions, feedback sessions, and discussions about situations they have encountered. This approach has helped foster a sense of personal responsibility among everyone, without relying solely on a top-down framework. The idea is that every team member understands the stakes and remains vigilant in their actions.
This work is also done in advance. Construction sites are prepared several weeks before work begins, in order to anticipate risks as much as possible and avoid having to react in a rush.
Effective safety management also requires close coordination with subcontractors. A dedicated supervisor monitors their activities, paying particular attention to compliance with rules, procedures, and technical protocols. Subcontractors are fully integrated into daily operations: they receive the same briefings, the same information, and are subject to the same requirements. This ensures consistency in practices and fosters a sense of cohesion.
In the same vein, we are working closely with EDF’s teams. Certain adjustments have been made to improve working conditions for the teams, such as relocating the waste containment area and adjusting work schedules based on temperature.
After five years without an accident, the main challenge remains avoiding complacency. To that end, the teams maintain consistently high standards: assessing situations before taking action, rotating shifts, and adapting to weather conditions.
Safety is an ongoing effort that requires constant vigilance and commitment. Kudos to all the teams involved, and thank you to EDF for the excellent collaboration. Let’s continue to move forward together with the same high standards for safety!
