Onet enters the European Parliament in Strasbourg

Since April 2020, Onet Cleaning and Associated Services has been at the heart of Europe's legislative power, cleaning and disinfecting the European Parliament.

In Strasbourg, a Onet Cleaning and Associated ServicesThis emblematic site, comprising five buildings with a total surface area of 348,000 m2 , is overseen by an agency with unrivalled standards of quality and responsiveness. The agency's day-to-day work is punctuated by plenary sessions, when 705 Members of the European Parliament converge.

An innovative approach to cleaning

Among the major innovations offered by Onet Cleaning and Associated Services, a number of connected objects have been successfully deployed. For example, a QR Code has been installed by the teams in each of the 16,000 parts, enabling real-time quality monitoring.

" Checks are carried out using our dedicated application. We have 2,000 checks a year to carry out by our teams and 744 contradictory checks with the customer ", explains Véronique Hahn, whose agency is entirely dedicated to site cleanliness.

Another technological innovation is the installation of 300 connected boxes, making it easier to monitor the 200 sanitary check-in sheets and 110 in the meeting rooms. So, at the end of each gathering, users can press a button to trigger cleaning and disinfection operations.

" The entire Vàclav Havel building has been equipped with this box, enabling us to track the services of our agents in real time, and monitor the quality and frequency of our visits to all areas ," explains Julien Le Coq, Director of the Eastern Region.

A real challenge to meet the requirements of this contract with the five buildings that make up the institutional quarter, including the Council of Europe and the Palais de l'Homme. These interconnected buildings represent a floor area of 348,000 m2 and 100,000 m2 of glazing.

The hemicycle in the Louise Weiss building has 750 seats for MPs and 785 for the public.

" Once a year, we clean the hemicycle's imposing wooden shell. It's dusted and oiled by the rope-men. We also polish the inside of the glass slats, " explains Véronique.

On site, European civil servants and subcontractors work around the clock. The twelve plenary sessions punctuate the life of the Parliament. " Every day, we clean a third of the buildings and all the sites during the four days of the session. A week before the arrival of the 705 MEPs, their assistants and the President of the Parliament, we clean the unoccupied premises".

To cope with this increased workload, Onet Cleaning and Associated Services, which employs 106 permanent staff working on a daily basis, grows to 200 employees during the week of preparation, with a peak of 260 employees during the sessions.

The teams, supervised by nine team leaders, also include a pool of ten window cleaners who, every year, clean 700,000 m2 of glass surfaces.

20 years at the service of European civil servants in Luxembourg

The Onet Group has been working for over twenty years in Luxembourg, the other major European capital since 1952, along with Brussels, to ensure the cleanliness of the services of the General Secretariat of the European Parliament.

Pascal ROGE, General Manager Cleaning & Security CEO Onet Luxembourg

" A new four-year contract began in October 2020. We began by working on a complex of five buildings: Konrad Adenauer 1 (50,000 m2), Robert Schumann (32,000 m2), Scenninberg (5,000 m2) and Towers A and B. Six months ago, the Parliament changed its perimeter with the delivery of a second building, Konrad Adenauer 2. With a surface area of 120,000 m2, it replaces the two towers returned to the Grand Duchy ," explains Pascal Rogé.

Since September 2020, more than 3,000 hours of relocation support have been logged by Onet teams. " We are evacuating what has been left behind by the officials in the old premises. We put the offices in order and do the final cleaning before the arrival of the European officials ," adds Pascal. Over 2,000 of the 3,000 civil servants on the payroll have moved in recent months. Onet, which employs 80 staff at the Luxembourg Parliament, has recruited around ten people on fixed-term contracts to cope with the increased activity generated by the move.
