Onet Logistique honored by Carsat Alsace-Moselle for its MSD prevention initiative at PSA Tremery

The Onet Logistique Est agency has undertaken an exemplary approach to the prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders at the PSA site in Trémery.

His action was recognized by PSA and rewarded in the annual Safety competition organized by Carsat Alsace-Moselle.

A landmark initiative in occupational health and safety

As part of its mission to promote and coordinate occupational risk prevention, Carsat Alsace-Moselle organizes an annual safety competition.

This competition is aimed at insured establishments and individuals whose commitment to prevention is exemplary. The Grand Prix Prévention is awarded to establishments with over 150 employees for outstanding achievements and initiatives in occupational health and safety. The awards ceremony, which took place at the end of November 2021, singled out Onet Logistique's approach to preventing Musculoskeletal Disorders at the PSA site in Trémery.

The challenge of MSD prevention

Musculoskeletal disorders are one of the most recurrent pathologies on logistics platforms. Employees may suffer from them as a result of carrying loads or handling operations with poorly controlled postures and repetitive movements.

Reducing exposure to musculo-skeletal disorders is therefore a major social, human and economic challenge: by limiting the number of sick days, we improve customer site operations.

APTMS certification to structure the process

Hervé Regin, Multi-Site and QSE Manager at the Onet Logistique Est agency, is piloting the deployment of the Prevention approach at the PSA Tremery site.

It led Cédric Cabaret, Team Leader at the PSA Tremery site, to take the MSD Prevention Leader certification. This skill enhancement has enabled him to design and lead the MSD risk prevention process on the PSA Tremery site, in collaboration with all the players concerned. He carried out the first workstation analyses in early 2021.

Two priority positions

The logistics subcontracting activity consists of managing the maintenance parts warehouse at their two sites in Metz and Tremery.

The two team leaders and the multi-skilled handling operatives are responsible for the physical reception of parcels following orders placed by PSA, quality and quantity checks of materials received, stocking or direct delivery of materials to the workshops, and stocktaking.

Some operations require manual movement and transfer of parts, which can be heavy and frequent.

This is why the PSA Tremery site has been chosen as the pilot site for the APTMS study.

Initially, the study focused on 2 types of operation:

  • Transfers of 25kg cans for distribution to the customer: the aim was to reduce manual handling of the cans, restrict the range of movement and reduce the strain on the back, shoulders, arms and wrists.
  • Transferring parcels onto transport rolls for delivery to workshops, with the aim of reducing the number of leg flexions and extensions, reducing the number of back flexions, and reducing the need to place parcels on the lowest and highest levels of the roll.

Involvement of the various players and convincing results

The success of this approach depends in particular on the involvement of all parties in the co-construction of the project.

A meeting with the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Commission (CSSCT) was held at the end of December 2020 to inform social players and occupational medicine of the approach. In early January 2021, a presentation meeting was organized with the Carsat Alsace-Moselle inspector to validate the approach.

An initial presentation was made to our customer PSA's contacts, then in April 2021 with the Prevention department of the PSA Metz and Tremery divisions.

The actions and meetings with all the players, the involvement of our customer PSA, the simulations and tests have resulted in implementations that have led to a reduction of almost 90% in MSD risks on the two workstations treated.

Adding value over the long term

A monthly meeting is held between the coordinator, Cédric Cabaret, the pilot, Hervé Regin, and the subcontractor, PSA, to monitor the progress of deployment.

We have already set ourselves the target of analyzing new workstations each year, in order to improve our employees' working conditions using the same methodology.
