Project Sherlock: Qualification testing of sampling tools has begun
The Sherlock project, launched by EDF, involves disan old steam generator at Cruas to better understand its ageing process. Since 2018, Onet Technologies has mobilized a dozen engineers and technicians to develop special machines, such as the "corer", and to prepare for work on this unusual project. Qualification tests for the sampling tools are now underway in the Onet Technologies workshop in Marseille.
After more than a year of development tests on the premises of our partner OPTIM, the various tools required for sampling the steam generator of the Sherlock Project have been transferred to the Onet Technologies workshop in Marseille. The aim of this new stage of testing, which takes place on our premises, is to test the performance of the tools on 1:1 scale models.
The test program for the corer, the largest of the machines (which can drill large-diameter cores in steel thicknesses of over 50cm), has been successfully completed. Onet Technologies is now preparing the qualification stage with EDF.
Since 2018, a dozen engineers and technicians from Onet Technologies have been mobilized to meet the technical challenges of this unique project.
This qualification phase, also known as "Recette de niveau 2", is the last before the equipment is transferred to the Cruas power plant, where samples are taken from the actual steam generator.
